Pre-Debut as Mythology
Loona's pre-debut era (2016–2018) was conceived as a connected universe rather than a collection of solo tracks. Each member's single, short film, and teaser arrived in sequence, each adding a piece to a larger lunar and solar-themed story. Rather than hype-building releases, they were chapters.
Layers of Meaning
The narrative wove together celestial imagery, numerology, colour symbolism, and recurring visual motifs. Members weren't just debuting as a group — they were arriving into a world that had been unfolding in the teasers all along, with lore that fans pieced together across music videos, written statements, and cryptic social media posts.
Symbols, Colours, Animals
Each member was assigned a distinct colour, symbol, and animal that recurred throughout their solo releases and the group's visual identity. These weren't decorative — they were core to how the lore was communicated.

LOONAVERSE Members 1–11 Solos
Each subsequent member released their solo single and short film in sequence, each adding a new colour, symbol, and piece of the larger narrative. The teaser rollout was carefully paced, with each member's lore building on what came before.
August 2017 – December 2017
Sub-Unit Releases
Three sub-units — LOONA 1/3, ODD EYE CIRCLE, and TripleS — released EPs and teasers that showed how the members' worlds intersected and overlapped, deepening the mythology.
January 2018
LOONA 12:00
The final pre-debut release, featuring all 12 members for the first time. "Loona" marked the convergence of every storyline and symbol established over the previous 18 months.
March 2018
Official Debut
LOONA debuted as a 12-member girl group on the foundation of the lore Orbits had been living in since 2016. The mythology didn't end — it evolved.
